Dumb Little Quizes

I usually avoid these things like the plague, but I'm waiting for an upload to finish and killing time.

Your 2006 Summer Anthem Is

Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

"She's a lover, baby, and a fighter
Shoulda seen it comin' when it got a little brighter
With a name like "Dani California"
Day was gonna come when I was gonna mourn ya
A little loaded she was stealin' another breath
I love my baby to death"

You Are 65% Indie

You're a very indie person, and admit it, you look down a little on people who strive to be normal.
You'll indulge in a little mainstream pop culture every now and then. But for you, anything not indie is a guilty pleasure!

And more worryingly...
You Will Die at Age 46

Not bad, considering your super wild lifestyle

Nearly there then.

Back Again

A slightly longer delay in returning to active posting than planned, because I am, as has been proven frequently, a lazy little f*cker.
Anyway, went to see the Eels last night in Glasgow, with the intention of perhaps writing a nice little mini review for here. That went out the window because, frankly, I have no idea what to say about the show.
I forgot it was an early start and got to the venue (The ABC in Glasgow, my first time there. Nice place.) and missed all but the last 30 seconds or so of the support act, Smoosh. That 30 seconds was alright. I'd never heard of them before, turns out they are a pair of horribly young sisters. I hate young people with talent! Since I now can't even claim to be anything other than late 20's I find myself developing an innate dislike of young people anyway mind you.

Back to the matter at hand though. There was a short, tolerable break between Smoosh and Eels, just long enough for me to drink a pint and sneak outside for a smoke (God damn Scottish anti-smoking laws, beer and cigarettes are made to be enjoyed together, not forcibly separated!) then E and friends turned up on stage and blasted through a wonderful set. My attempts at forming a setlist were ruined when I (a) remembered that I have an awful memory and (b) had plentifully amounts of booze. They played a mix of stuff from all their albums as well as some trademark cover versions. They could pretty much have turned up, played Dog Faced Boy and gone home as far as I was concerned though. Had they done that I might have wondered why I'd spent twenty quid to see them though, so it's just as well they didn't really.

E & The Chet were joined on stage by a burly man dressed as a security guard, who proved to be massively and bizarrely entertaining as he would occasionally fill in on guitar or keyboards, backing vocal and assorted percussion. The entertaining and bizarre bits were the Kung Fu moves he'd throw out when not playing an instrument, and the odd non-seqiters he'd give between some songs. E himself spoke to the audience only once that I recall, and that was to tell a section of the crowd to stop clapping along with his songs.

Being that it was an early show with a kicking out time a good half an hour to 45 minutes before you'd normally get, there was only time for 2 encores, rather than the three, four or more I've heard of the band doing. I clearly wasn't the only person hoping for more after the final song, as a large section of the crowd steadfastly refused to go anywhere till the venue staff started kicking us out.

All in all, a flipping wonderful gig, albeit one that's impossible for me to describe in any less vague terms. My one little disappointment was the lack of a special limited edition CD for the tour, like Oh What A Beautiful Morning or Sixteen Tons. A minor dissapointment though.

Since my only digital camera type thing is a piss poor mobile phone and the last time I took photos at a gig was SLF in March and they were utterly incomprehensible, I didn't bother taking pictures, so instead, I've nicked some from another website. Different night, different place, but same stage attire. If anyone happens to come across a bootleg from the current tour, I'll quite literally kill for a copy.

Back soon

Just a small warning that there wont be any updates till the start of next week.
I'm off for the weekend, Saturday being a friend's stag night, Sunday being my birthday. New posts will kick off again around monday or tuesday, try not to miss me too much and feel free to send presents.

Rabbit Shit

I'll post this here rather than Bring Me The Heads, since it's more likely to be people I "know" who read it, rather than a bunch of leechers...

I've built up enough Rapidshare Premium Points to get a free one month premium account. My own account is good till February next year due to me feeling rich the last time it was up for renewal, so I don't really need the one month extension myself.

So, anyone want a freebie? To keep it for more than a month, you need to clock up 10000 downloads which I've never managed, but until the month runs out, you wont have to worry about download limits, within reason. Leave a comment or drop me an email if interested.

There may be a condition of having to share the account, depending who all replies, which is why I'm mentioning it here rather than the more public blog, so that I'm more likely to get reasonably trustworthy people sharing it, rather than some scummy stranger who'll change the password right away.

World Cup Fever

Ahh bliss. Less than an hour to go before a month long feast of fotball begins. That's "soccer" to you crazy foreigners, by the way.

As a result, don't be too concerned if I vanish for long stretches of time over the next four or five weeks, I'm most likely rooted in front of the television cheering on someone bizarre like Togo, or whoever happen to be playing against England at the time. I don't even have anything against England, but it's the law that I cheer against them, since I'm an Irish Scots mongrel.

For the record, my money is on Spain. Expect them to crash out in the second round.

Lazy

Nice work Jim, start a new blog then neglect it even more than you do the old one.

In my defense, several drinking opportunities presented themselves and not being the type of man to refuse the chance to drink my body weight in Guinness (not that impressive really, I'm a skinny wretch) I've gladly accepted, conveniently forgetting my whole must-save-money-I-have-no-job scenario.

Plus, after me dissing Scottish weather on Bring Me the Heads, it's been really nice since about ten minutes after I posted Imperial Teen. Naturally I try to avoid the sun, since my skin has two colours - ghost white & lobster red - bright light isn't my natural environment.

So there you go. I may be a lazy bugger, but I always manage to think up an excuse.

Lost

Spent yesterday catching up on the last four or five episodes of season two (God bless bittorrent! We are only on episode five or so over here).
So, how can something so utterly infuriating be so bloody addictive?
Also, now that Lost is done for the season and The Shield is still on a break, what the Hell am I meant to download and watch 6 months before it airs in my country now?

This Week's Comics

Step one in removing my carefully designed facade as being a trendy muso type person - I read comics. Lots of them. Have done since I was a small person, still do now that I'm a small but older person.

So, with that out the way, here's what I'm looking forward to this week, from Comiclist.

DC COMICS
52 Week #3
Infinite Crisis never really did it for me, yet I'm comitting myself to a weekly comic from DC. Odd. I blame the Grant Morrison factor. Having Montoya and The Question in the bok doesn't hurt either. Now if only that entire run of Denny O'Neill Questions that I bought from Ebay the other day would hurry up and arrive...
Batman #653
I'll read this somehow, probably. Don't plan to pay money for it though. I usually like James Robinson but so far the story has left me cold. Not to worry, Dini and Morrison are just round the corner.
Birds Of Prey #94
My enjoyment of this is dwindling a bit, but it's still a way better than most DC books.
Catwoman #55
Didn't plan to stick with this after Brubaker left, but it's not been too bad without him, so I'm still onboard for now at least.
Checkmate #2
Issue one wasn't bad, so I'll check this out in TPB. I'd rather be reading Queen & Country though.
Hawkgirl #52, $2.99
Simonson & Chaykin. That's enough to get me to buy it.
Hellblazer #220
Denise Mina has done OK so far, and it is quite fun to see John in Glasgow. Storyline really needs to start speeding up though, or Hellblazer will be back off my buy list, just like it was when Mike Carey bored me shitless.
Loveless Vol 1 A Kin Of Homecoming TPB
Cheap, so getting purchased. Azzarello is hit & miss. 100 Bullets is wonderful, most other stuff, not so much.
Teen Titans #36, $2.99
Been buying Teen Titans in collections so far, so I'll get this when it in TPB. Curious to see how the continuity train wreck that is the Doom Patrol will be handled.

MARVEL COMICS
Avengers & Power Pack Assemble #2 (Of 4)
These Power Pack minis are fun, so when this goes to cheap digest collection, I'll pick it up then. Issue one had an unitentionally hilarious cover too, as bad design led to Captain America abscuring part of the title, leaving anyone who didn't know better to think it was called Avengers & Power Pack Ass, which is just plain weird.
Black Widow Things They Say About Her TPB
I really should stop buying collections of mini series that I already have, but never mind.
Daredevil #85
Brubaker, Lark. Slam dunk.
Iron Man #8
As appealing as the thought of the creator of Carnivale writing Iron Man is, I'll pass.
New Avengers #19
Yeah, it's not really all that great, but it's not bad enough to stop me reading it. And I'm a filthy Bendis whore, obviously.
New Thunderbolts Vol 3 Right Of Power TPB
Reading this in collections. It's alright, but now I'm a jobless bum, it might be on the chopping block once money starts to run out.
Nextwave Agents Of Hate #5
Not quite as funny as it thinks it is, but good enough, despite being written by Warren Ellis, who I don't hold in very high esteem.
Powers #18
Again, Bendis whore. His best book by miles though, so it's ok.
Sensational Spider-Man #26
Meh. I wish this would get cancelled, since the effort it takes to remove it from my regular order is too much for a man of apathy like me.
She-Hulk 2 #8
Not as entertaining as it used to be, but always worth it for Awesome Andy if nothing else.
Spider-Man Black Cat Evil That Men Do Marvel Premiere HC
I really should stop buying expensive hard covers of mini series I already own... A combination of my strange fetish for hardcovers (seriously, slap something in a hefty cover and stick a dust jacket on it and the odds of me buying it skyrocket) and my liking of Kevin Smith mean I'm buying this anyway.
Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane #6
I'm not a teenage manga loving American girl, but that doesn't mean I can't read comics aimed at them, does it?
X-Factor #7
Not as good as the Madrox mini, and I don't much like Peter David, but probably the best regular series with an X on it nonetheless.
X-Statix Presents Dead Girl #5 (Of 5), $2.99
Peter Milligan doing weird shit. Count me in.

THRUD COMICS
Thrud The Barbarian #1
Hopefully I can chase down a copy of this. Thrud is always highly entertaining.

Random Shite

Howfy, if you are reading this, I'll go ahead and presume you already know who I am from my other blog, Bring Me The Heads, which saves any tedious introductions.

Don't expect any music posts here, apart from the occasional single track or something, this is more a spot for me to ramble on about general stuff that interests me, including but not limited to music, movies, football, wrestling and comics.

It'll no doubt interst no one (including myself) but hey, it'll pass my time while I'm helping bring down the music industry by up and downloading music, wont it?
